Taxonomy
Ammonites oxynotus was named by Quenstedt (1843). It is the type species of Oxynoticeras.

It was recombined as Oxynoticeras oxynotum by Hyatt (1874), Hollingworth et al. (1990) and Meister and Friebe (2003).
