Terebratula squamiplex was named by Quenstedt (1871). It is the type species of Squamirhynchia.
It was recombined as Rhynchonella squamiplex by Rollier (1917); it was recombined as Squamirhynchia squamiplex by Ager (1967), Alméras and Fauré (2000) and Paredes et al. (2013).
