Taxonomy
Ammonites simonyi was named by Hauer (1847). It is the type species of Simonyceras.

It was recombined as Lytoceras simonyi by von Mojsisovics (1873); it was recombined as Monophyllites simonyi by von Mojsisovics (1902); it was recombined as Simonyceras simonyi by Wiedmann (1970), Rakús (1993) and Lukeneder and Lukeneder (2014).
