Taxonomy
Goniatites haidingeri was named by Hauer (1847). It is the type species of Sageceras.

It was recombined as Sageceras haidingeri by von Mojsisovics (1873), von Mojsisovics (1882), von Wöhrmann (1889), von Mojsisovics (1902), Arthaber (1915), Spath (1934) and Spath (1935).
