Euidothyris was named by Buckman (1917) [Sepkoski's age data: J Aale Sepkoski's reference number: 1,882]. Its type is Euidothyris extensa.

It was reranked as Terebratula (Euidothyris) by Roche (1939).

It was assigned to Terebratula by Roche (1939); to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Postepithyrididae by Williams et al. (2006).
