Clydonites monilis was named by Laube (1869).

It was recombined as Lobites monilis by von Mojsisovics (1875) and von Mojsisovics (1882); it was recombined as Lobites (Coroceras) monilis by von Mojsisovics (1902); it was recombined as Coroceras monilis by Spath (1951).
