Taxonomy
Nautilus spirolobus was named by Dittmar (1866).

It was recombined as Clydonautilus (Proclydonautilus) spirolobus by von Mojsisovics (1902); it was recombined as Proclydonautilus spirolobus by Smith (1927), Kummel (1953), Schastlivtseva (1988) and Sobolev (1989).
