Taxonomy
Girtyella was named by Weller (1911) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-l C Serp-l Sepkoski's reference number: 955 definitely not 1914]. It is the type genus of Girtyellinae.

It was assigned to Dielasmatidae by Brunton and Champion (1974); to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Girtyellinae by Williams et al. (2006).
