Glyphisaria was named by Cooper (1983) [Sepkoski's age data: J Call-m J Kimm Sepkoski's reference number: 877]. Its type is Glyphisaria uniplicata.

It was assigned to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Postepithyrididae by Williams et al. (2006).
