Poecilasmatidae was named by Annandale (1909). It is extant. Its type is Poecilasma.

It was assigned to Lepadomorpha by Jones (2007), Chan et al. (2010), Harzhauser and Schloegl (2012) and Gale (2015); and to Lepadoidea by Chan et al. (2021).
