Angulatergum moorei

Taxonomy
Stramentum moorei was named by Hattin (1977). Its type specimen is KUS 111588, an other, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Luray-Bunker Hill Road, which is in a Cenomanian marine chalk in the Greenhorn Formation of Kansas. It is the type species of Stramentum (Angulatergum).

It was recombined as Stramentum (Angulatergum) moorei by Hauschke (1994); it was recombined as Angulatergum moorei by Gale (2016).

Hattin 1977Capitulum and peduncle typical
for family, comprising 10 plates and 8 columns,
respectively. Capitulum with broadly
convex occludent margin. Scutum trapeziform
with upper lateral margin and rostral part of
occludent margin nonparallel, meeting basal
margins at obtuse and acute angles, respectively;
scutal umbo not coincident with angulation
of occludent margin, lies from oneninth
to one-fourth the distance from apex to
rostral angle-the latter in larger specimens;
apex pointed, commonly produced. Tergum
roughly rhomboidal, with V-shaped growth
lines; carinal lateral margin shorter and more
steeply inclined with respect to long axis as
compared to upper lateral margin; apex blunt;
shallow furrow lies parallel to and shortly removed
from occludent margin. Carinal latus
having carinal and basal margins of subequal
length; carinobasal angle broadly obtuse.
Peduncle widest at summit, joins capitulum
with moderate obliquity, carinal and carinal
lateral columns with one or two more plates
than scutal and rostral columns; number of
plates per column small for genus, usually 9 to
11 in larger specimens; base of peduncle
bluntly rounded, rostral and carinal margins
strongly convex. Height of peduncle averages
slightly more than twice the height of
capitulum. In lower part of peduncle, width of plates in paired columns is less than twice the
height; width of these plates is three or more
times the height at summit of peduncle; upper
margins of plates nearly straight to gently convex;
plates of upper lateral column wider than
those of adjacent columns.
