Hesperosia was named by Cooper (1983) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi Sepkoski's reference number: 882]. Its type is Rectithyris vespertina.

It was assigned to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Gibbithyridinae by Williams et al. (2006).
