Rogerella was named by de Saint-Seine (1951). Its type is Rodgerella lecointrei.

It was corrected as Rodgerella by Newman et al. (1969).

It was assigned to Rogerellidae by Schlaudt and Young (1960); to Rodgerellidae by Newman et al. (1969); and to Ichnofossils by Hantzschel (1975).
