Kurakithyris was named by Hatai (1946) [Sepkoski's age data: T Plio Sepkoski's reference number: 1]. Its type is Kurakithyris quantoensis.

It was assigned to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Terebratellidina by Williams et al. (2007).
