Pollicipes rigidus was named by Sowerby (1836). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Pycnolepas rigidus by Withers (1935); it was recombined as Pycnolepas rigida by Carriol and Collins (2000) and Jagt et al. (2007).
