Taxonomy
Mametothyris was named by Smirnova (1969) [Sepkoski's age data: K Barr K Albi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 882]. It is not extant. Its type is Mametothyris mametica. It is the type genus of Mametothyrididae.

It was assigned to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Mametothyrididae by Williams et al. (2006).
