Marinurnula was named by Waterhouse (1964) [Sepkoski's age data: C Step-l P Guad-u Sepkoski's reference number: 712]. Its type is Marinurnula rugulata.

It was assigned to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pseudodielasmatidae by Williams et al. (2006).
