Meganteris was named by Suess (1855) [Sepkoski's age data: D Sieg D Emsi Sepkoski's reference number: 25]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Meganteridinae, Meganterididae.
It was assigned to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Meganteridinae by Williams et al. (2006).
