Musculina was named by Schuchert and LeVene (1929) [Sepkoski's age data: K Vala-l K Albi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 776].

It was assigned to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Sellithyridinae by Williams et al. (2006).
