Orthis calligramma proava was named by Salter (1865).

It was recombined as Orthis proava by Matley (1912); it was recombined as Lenorthis proava by Bates (1968); it was recombined as Orthambonites proava by Ross and Ingham (1970); it was recombined as Paralenorthis proava by Jaanusson and Bassett (1993).
