Taxonomy
Orthambonites perplexus was named by Ross and Barnes (1967). Its type specimen is USNM 145668 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is D 835 CO, which is in an Ibexian shallow subtidal limestone in the Antelope Valley Formation of Nevada.
It was recombined as Plectorthis perplexus by Ross (1970); it was recombined as Shoshonorthis perplexus by Jaanusson and Bassett (1993).
