Taxonomy
Avonia defessa was named by Stainbrook (1947) [Holotype was originally M.A.S. 1612.]. Its type specimen is USNM 135255 and is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Leioproductus defessa by Cooper and Dutro (1982).
