Productella laminatus was named by Kindle (1909). Its type specimen is USGS 62014a and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Echinoconchus laminatus by Stainbrook (1947); it was recombined as Laminatia laminata by Muir-Wood and Cooper (1960) and Cooper and Dutro (1982).
