Taxonomy
Rhynchonella emmonsi was named by Hall and Whitfield (1877). Its type specimen is USNM 14023a, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Hypothyris emmonsi by Stauffer (1930); it was recombined as Hypothyridina emmonsi by Stainbrook (1945).
