Taxonomy
Ovatathyris was named by Owen (1988) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi K Ceno-m Sepkoski's reference number: 776]. It is not extant. Its type is Terebratula ovata.

It was assigned to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Sellithyridinae by Williams et al. (2006).
