Scalpellum aucklandicum was named by Hector (1888). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Pollicipes aucklandicus by Benham (1903); it was recombined as Hexelasma aucklandicum by Withers (1913); it was recombined as Bathylasma aucklandicum by Buckeridge (1983).
