Taxonomy
Hydnophyllia malayica was named by Gerth (1923). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Kabasian River, Borneo, which is in a Miocene marine horizon in Indonesia.

It was recombined as Colpophyllia malayica by Kiessling (2008).
