Taxonomy
Latiastraea pakongensis was named by Liao and Xia (1985). Its type locality is Baingoin region, which is in an Oxfordian/Kimmeridgian platform/shelf-margin reef limestone in the Pakong Formation of China.

It was recombined as Latiastrea pakongensis by Kiessling (2014).
