Taxonomy
Miscellosmilia famosa was named by Eliasova (1976). Its type locality is Stramberk reef, Czechia, which is in a Tithonian reef, buildup or bioherm reef rocks in the Stramberk Limestone Formation of the Czech Republic.

It was recombined as Axosmilia famosa by Kiessling (2014).
