Hamipterus tianshanensis
Taxonomy
Hamipterus tianshanensis was named by Wang et al. (2014). Its type specimen is IVPP V18931.1, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Hami, which is in a Barremian/Aptian lacustrine mudstone/sandstone in the Shengjinkou Formation of China. It is the type species of Hamipterus.

Wang et al. 2014 | Pteranodontoid pterodactyloid pterosaur exhibiting the following autapomorphies: hook-shaped bony process on the tip of the dentary; lacrimal process of jugal thin, anteriorly directed, and dorsally expanded; well-developed crest on supraoccipital; ventral pneumatic foramen close to the base of the deltopectoral crest; distal lateral carpal with ventrally directed spike-like process. The new species can be further distinguished from other pteranodontoid pterosaurs by the following combination of characters: premaxillary crest with developed anteriorly curved ridges and sulci; developed palatal ridge extending to the anterior tip of the premaxilla; developed dentary groove reaching the tip of the dentary; anterior tip of the premaxilla and dentary laterally slightly expanded; moderately warped deltopectoral crest. |
