It was recombined as Ostrea vesiculosa by Choffat (1888) and Sowerby (1891); it was recombined as Pycnodonte vesiculosa by Quarto di Palo (1970) and Kendrick and Vartak (2007); it was recombined as Pycnodonte (Phygraea) vesiculosum by Malchus (1990); it was recombined as Pycnodonte (Phygraea) vesicularis vesiculosa by Mendir et al. (2021).
