Postepithyris was named by Makridin (1960) [Sepkoski's age data: J Oxfo-u J Kimm Sepkoski's reference number: 1,882]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Postepithyrididae.
It was assigned to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Postepithyrididae by Williams et al. (2006).
