Maatidesmus paachtun was named by Riquelme and Hernández-Patricio (2014). Its type specimen is LZ.MALM28 and is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Mexican amber, Simojovel, Guadalupe Victoria (MALM collection), which is in a Miocene terrestrial amber in Mexico.
