Taxonomy
Leptophyllastraea vaughani was named by Durham (1942). Its type locality is UCMP Loc. A-3206 - Observatory Point [Crescent Fm], which is in a Ypresian marine volcaniclastic in the Crescent Formation of Washington.

It was recombined as Dimorphastrea vaughani by Kiessling (2008).
