Chenendopora was named by Lamouroux (1821) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi-u K Camp-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1021]. It is not extant. Its type is Chenendopora fungiformis. It is the type genus of Chenendoporidae.
It was assigned to Lithistida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Chenendoporidae by Finks et al. (2004).
