Psebajithyris was named by Tchorzhevsky (1974) [Sepkoski's age data: J Oxfo Sepkoski's reference number: 882]. Its type is Psebajithyris rostovtzevi. It is the type genus of Psebajithyridinae.
It was assigned to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Psebajithyridinae by Tchorzhevsky (1974) and Williams et al. (2006).
