Taxonomy
Bakevellia sedgwickiana was named by King (1848). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Tunstall Hill, Durham (King collection), which is in a Wuchiapingian perireef or subreef grainstone in the Ford Formation of the United Kingdom.

It was recombined as Gervillia sedgwickiana by Geinitz (1861).
