Taxonomy
Rhombothyris was named by Middlemiss (1959) [Sepkoski's age data: K Apti-u K Albi Sepkoski's reference number: 1,776,1097]. Its type is Terebratula extensa.

It was assigned to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Rectithyridinae by Williams et al. (2006).
