Taxonomy
Sacothyris was named by Jin et al. (1977) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori Sepkoski's reference number: 538]. Its type is Aulacothyropsis sinosa.

It was assigned to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Zeilleriinae by Williams et al. (2006) and Guo et al. (2019).
