Sardope was named by Dieni et al. (1973) [Sepkoski's age data: K Apti Sepkoski's reference number: 882]. Its type is Sardope sardoa.

It was assigned to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Aniabrochinae by Williams et al. (2006).
