It was recombined as Rafinesquina hirnantensis by Lamont (1935); it was recombined as Strophomena hirnantensis by Donovan and Paul (1985); it was recombined as Eostropheodonta hirnantensis by Cocks (1982), Cocks (2005), Cocks (2008), Rubel (2011), Cocks (2014), Popov and Cocks (2014) and Hints and Harper (2015).
