Taxonomy
Spasskothyris was named by Smirnova (1975) [Sepkoski's age data: K Berr K Haut Sepkoski's reference number: 538]. Its type is Spasskothyris rjasanensis. It is the type genus of Spasskothyrididae.

It was assigned to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Spasskothyrididae by Williams et al. (2006).
