Ceriosmilia iranica was named by Schuster (2002). Its type locality is Abadeh, Porites-Faviidae assemblage, Iran, which is in a Chattian reef, buildup or bioherm reef rocks in the Qom Formation of Iran.
It was recombined as Colpophyllia iranica by Kiessling (2014).
