Stefanomioptera ostertali was named by Guthörl (1962). It is an impression. Its type locality is Hangard in Ostertal, near Neunkirchen-Saar, which is in a Stephanian A terrestrial siliciclastic in the Göttelborn Formation of Germany.
It was recombined as Palaeomantis ostertali by Carpenter (1967).
