Taxonomy
Cecidomyia chaneyi was named by Cockerell (1927). It is a trace fossil. Its type locality is Loc 3930, John Day series, which is in an Oligocene lacustrine shale in the John Day Formation of Oregon.

It was recombined as Acericecis chaneyi by Gagné and Jaschhof (2014).
