Cyclospira orbus

Rhynchonellata - Atrypida - Cyclospiridae

Taxonomy
Cyclospira orbus was named by Cocks and Modzalevskaya (1997). Its type specimen is BC 51087, a valve (conjoined valves), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Bed 4. Pryamaya River, Lower Taimyr River Basin, which is in an Ashgill offshore shelf limestone/shale in the Korotkinskaya Formation of the Russian Federation.

C. M. O. Rasmussen et al. 2012Shell small, ventri-biconvex in outline and oval to rhomboidal in profile.Maximumwidth at mid-valve. Ventral palintrope orthocline to weakly apsacline. Apical foramen extending beyond posterior margin. Dorsal valve evenly convex and slightly sulcate. Valves smooth, though perforated by minute holes (see SEMimage on pl. 16, fig. 19).

Ventral interior with small teeth and small, widely divergent recessive dental plates. Dorsal interior with medianly directed spiralia preserved; low, thick dorsal median septum extending for about 75% of valve length. Relatively deep dental sockets seen posterior to spiralia.
