Syncyclonema gibsonia was named by Skwarko (1967). Its type specimen is CPC 6925, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is B5 - Mount Beadell [Bejah Beds], which is in an Aptian marine horizon in the Bejah Formation of Australia.
