Dicranograptoidea was named by Lapworth (1873) [Originally Diplograptidae, emended by Storch et al. 2011 and raise to superfamily level]. It is not extant. It was considered monophyletic by Storch et al. (2011).

It was assigned to Diplograptina by Storch et al. (2011).
