Zeilleria was named by Bayle (1878) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Anis-l K Haut-l Sepkoski's reference number: 55,877 Estimated year, actual year unknown]. It is the type genus of Zeilleriidae, Zeilleriinae.

It was reranked as Waldheimia (Zeilleria) by Bayle (1878) and Vacek (1886).

It was assigned to Waldheimia by Bayle (1878) and Vacek (1886); to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Zeilleriinae by Williams et al. (2006).
