Taxonomy
Opikina matutina was named by Cooper (1956). Its type specimen is USNM 117817a and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Porterfield Quarry, 5 miles northeast of Saltville, which is in a Darriwilian carbonate limestone in the Arline Formation of Virginia.
